Update!

I've decided to reboot The Verse at least up to version 0.2. Once I have that completed, I can do a side by side comparison but it's probably going to be pointless. I already like the feel of the game more this way. I have far more control over it and am only limited by not being able to figure out how to do it in actionscript.

That's what I've got done so far and will most likely be the general format of the game. The player portrait is just a place holder for now. I've already heard back from an artist on commissioning pictures and we're discussing how to proceed, though with the amount I'll be needing I'll probably hire more than one.

I still have some things I need to figure out but the majority of the learning experience is behind me. I'm excited to see how things turn out.

    1. Yes I'll be setting something up to help fund the photos. Entirely optional though.

  2. Just please no glasses in the final product unless they're entirely optional.

    3. Glasses are great.

    4. It's Asmina's choice for the glasses or not. I won't mind either way.

    5. It's anyone with glasses. It just bugs me, one of my instant turn off buttons basically.

    6. well I don't find hentai or drawn erotica all that appealing. We all have our likes/dislikes, it's entirely up to the author on what to do.

    7. Sure, I'm only offering a suggestion though. If an author makes a game for people to play, then it's fair to assume that players can voice their opinion.

  3. Hi I really enjoyed the original in rags, but I like this even better I think, the Interface is certainly nicer to look at. I hope you continue the reboot.

    Here are some typos:

    Defect:Lustful:
you wrote "then" it should be than.
you wrote "though" it should be thought.

    Trait:Intelligent:
"... or even scientific. You even are able..."
2 even so close together? nothing really bad or wrong, but you could just delete the first one
then it would be like this:
"...mechanical, electrical or scientific. You even are able..."

    Defect:Trouble magnet:
you wrote "... .This trait" it should be "This defect.

    1. Lol I haven't gone through and taken a second look yet. That's not even an alpha. Thanks for pointing them out though.

  4. Best part about the original was the gritty, vaguely authentic feel the photos gave it. Shame to lose that but if anime it's gotta be, anime it will be. Flash looks great by the way.

    1. I agree with the above anon. I have never been a fan of anime CG used in games. Even though I'm a huge fan of anime in general! I think the game may lose something with that particular change. I do agree the Flash UI looks fantastic though. And if the concept is carried over well, I'll definitely give it a fair chance :)

    2. I would actually agree with you both. The original reason I went with real models was to make it feel more real. However I feel the benefit doesn't outweigh the negatives. I'm not 100% sold on the decision yet. I'll be making the final choice once I finish 0.2 with the reboot.

    3. While I do agree that having pictures instead of drawings gives more... realism I guess?... I think drawings would work better due to the more flexible content. Also, seeing characters from TV shows and movies popping up everywhere was a little distracting. I did my best to ignore them since I liked the text of the game.

  5. Look fantastic. While I'll miss the photos (for characters at least), good custom art can only help. Any chance we could get the artist's name along with the donation option?

    1. I'll be publishing the names of any artists that I commission from. I'm still looking for artists and would ideally like a few. However it seems like nearly all of the good ones have commissions closed.

If anyone sees any, please refer me to them.

    2. Maybe contact your first choices anyway, with the blurb of "I'm making this here game. Here's the old demo, but I was limited by the engine and picture finding."

Who knows, you might get exactly who you want if you get them interested.

    3. I have been. I only rule them out when they respond to me. :P

  6. Looks really nice. I for one really dislike real pictures in games, rather no picture at all then. So I am rather happy about these changes.

  7. good work, sounds promising.
And that way the interface looks like more "in the theme" than on rags.
